Have you given your life to Christ?
There is a question that sooner or later every human being must answer. It is not about what religion your family belongs to, whether you were baptised as a child, whether you attend a church or whether you consider yourself a good person. The question is deeper and more personal: have you given your life to Jesus Christ?
This website is dedicated to spreading the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our Saviour. That is why we want to ask you this question with respect and love. Not to judge you, but because we believe the best news in the world is that God loves you and invites you to a new life in Christ. If you have already made this decision, this article will help you remember and share your faith. If not, we invite you to read with an open heart.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20
What does it mean to give your life to Christ?
Giving your life to Christ means trusting him as Saviour and acknowledging him as Lord. It is ceasing to run your life according to your own desires and placing it in the hands of the One who created you, died for you and rose again. It is not simply a passing emotion or an outward rite, but a decision of the heart that changes the direction of your whole existence.
The Bible uses several expressions to describe this step: believing in Jesus, receiving him, repenting and being converted, being born again, confessing him as Lord. They all point to the same reality: a personal encounter with Christ that produces a new life.
God loves you
The starting point is not your sin but God’s love. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). You are not an accident. You were created in God’s image, with a purpose, and God wants a relationship with you.
Jesus said: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The Christian life is not a list of prohibitions, but a life full of meaning, peace and hope.
The problem: sin separates us from God
If God loves us and wants a relationship with us, why do so many people feel far from him? The Bible explains that sin has created a separation. Sinning is not only committing great crimes; it is living with our back to God, disobeying his will and seeking our own glory. Lies, pride, selfishness, resentment, impurity: all of us, to a greater or lesser extent, have failed.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23
Sin has consequences: emptiness, guilt, broken relationships and, finally, eternal separation from God. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). No human effort can erase that debt: not good works, not rituals, not promises to change.
The solution: Jesus Christ died and rose again for you
The good news is that God did not leave us in that condition. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, who lived a sinless life, died on the cross in our place and rose again on the third day. On the cross he bore the punishment we deserved so that we could receive forgiveness and eternal life.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
Jesus is not one of many ways. He himself said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Salvation is not something we earn, but a gift we receive by faith: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Your response: receive Christ
Knowing these facts is not enough. You need to respond personally. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). Receiving Christ involves several things:
Recognising your need. Admitting before God that you have sinned and cannot save yourself.
Repenting. Being willing to turn away from sin and turn to God. It is not about changing first and then coming to Christ, but about coming to him so that he can change you.
Believing. Trusting that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again, and that his sacrifice is sufficient.
Confessing. Declaring that Jesus is your Lord. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).
Why today?
Many people put off this decision. They think there will be time later, that they must first sort out their lives, or that they are too young to think about God. But the Bible says: “behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). No one is guaranteed tomorrow. Besides, every day without Christ is a day without the peace, forgiveness and hope he wants to give you.
Nor does it matter how far away you have been. The thief on the cross turned to Jesus in his last hours and received the promise of paradise. The prodigal son was welcomed with an embrace. There is no sin so great that the blood of Christ cannot cleanse it.
A prayer of surrender
There are no magic words; what matters is the sincere attitude of the heart. If you want to give your life to Christ, you can pray in your own words or with a prayer like this one:
Lord Jesus, I recognise that I have sinned and that I need your forgiveness. I believe that you are the Son of God, that you died on the cross for my sins and that you rose from the dead. Today I repent and turn to you. I open the door of my heart and receive you as my Saviour and my Lord. Forgive me, cleanse me and make me a new person. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and help me follow you all the days of my life. Thank you for your love and for eternal life. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer sincerely, the Bible assures you that you are a child of God, your sins have been forgiven and you have eternal life. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life” (1 John 5:13). There is joy in heaven over you!
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to stop sinning before coming to Christ? No. Jesus receives people as they are and then transforms them. He said he came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
What if I don’t feel anything special? Salvation does not depend on emotions but on God’s promises. Some people feel great joy; others a quiet peace. What matters is faith in Christ.
What if I fail again? All believers keep struggling against sin. When you fail, confess it to God; he is faithful and just to forgive (1 John 1:9). You are not a child of God because you never fail, but because of the grace of Christ.
Do I need to belong to a particular church? Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ. However, God wants every believer to live in fellowship with other Christians, in a church that faithfully teaches the Bible.
